Create Your Playlist
The first step in the process is creating the playlist, and the choice of service you use for building it depends on how you want to compile your audio files. Hypster, for example, features a searchable library of MP3 files that you can use to add songs for playback. Streampad, on the other hand, takes all audio files you’ve ever uploaded to your blog and compiles them into a personalized playlist. With SCM Music Player, you can develop a playlist using the URLs that link to individual MP3 files anywhere on the Web.
Obtain the HTML Script
Design your player’s skin – for example, choose your player’s colors, layout and size – and ensure that the “Repeat” option is enabled. Generate, highlight and copy the resulting HTML script. With the SCM Music Player, this is done using the “Choose Skin” and “Configure Settings” tabs. With Hypster, hover over the “Create” option, select “Player” and click “Get Code” once you’ve selected your player’s display preferences. If you’ve used Streampad, click the Tumblr icon to customize your player’s display and then obtain the script from the “Copy the Script Code Below” box.
Player Placement
You can embed your custom player anywhere on your Tumblr blog, regardless of whether you’ve chosen to design your own theme or are using a pre-formatted option. Before you import the HTML script, you’ll need to determine where you’d like to add the player. The sidebar may offer the best – and easiest to find – location, since it does not require a reader who desires silence to scroll through pages of posts to find the “Pause” button. If you prefer to avoid the sidebar, you can add the player to your header or footer instead.
Embedding the Code
Navigate your browser to your Tumblr page and sign in to your Dashboard. Choose the blog you want to use for the music player from the titles displayed at the top. Select the option to “Customize Appearance” and switch into the HTML editor by clicking “Edit HTML.” Search the current HTML script – press “Ctrl-F” on a PC or “Command-F” on a Mac – for the appropriate place to add your embed code. For example, if you wish to insert it in the sidebar, search by keyword “sidebar.” Add a few hard returns by pressing the “Enter” key, and paste your player’s HTML code.
Test It Out
Select the “Update Preview” button to preview the changes to your blog. Edit or move the HTML code elsewhere if you’re not happy with the results. When you are satisfied, click “Save” and then “Close.” Launch your blog in the browser to test out the player and confirm that your player’s repeat settings, as well as other features, like the player’s colors and auto-play options, are configured properly.
