MP3 files are one of the most widely supported audio file format today. Unfortunately, MP3 files do not support 5.1 surround sound transmission by default due to built-in stereo audio encoding. Dolby Digital is the most widely supported surround sound format today; all DVD/Blu-ray movies support it and most video games do as well. Dolby Digital has a technology that will take stereo audio sources (e.g., MP3 files) and convert them to full 5.1 surround sound.
