When a cell phone comes locked to a particular GSM network, you have to unlock it if you ever want to use the phone with a carrier other than the one from which you purchased it. You can unlock phones using special unlocking software connected with the phone using a cable, but this method is slightly complicated. A better option involves “remote unlocking” your phone by paying a company to generate an unlock code for your particular handset. When you enter this code into the phone, you unlock your phone.
